How To Enjoy The Countryside On A Break Away

A luxury cabin retreat in the countryside is a perfect holiday destination that suits families, couples, and groups of friends. A British country trip gives holidaymakers a way to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, as the country air can be incredibly rejuvenating.

If you’re considering a rural staycation for your next holiday, you might be wondering how to enjoy the countryside during your break away.

Let’s dive into some tips to help you and those you travel with get the most out of your countryside break during your visit.

1. Get Familiar With The Countryside Code

Before you start exploring the countryside, make sure you’re up to date with The Countryside Code, which is the UK government’s rules for people visiting the countryside.

People live in the countryside and depend on the land for their livelihood. The Countryside Code helps protect the land so everyone can enjoy it. Some of the Code’s rules include keeping dogs under control, taking litter home, and not feeding horses or livestock

It includes the rules you need to follow when enjoying the countryside, coast, waterways, and parks. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye out for right-of-way signs. These indicate where you can go freely and if there are any private areas you need to stay away from.

2. Disconnect From Technology

If you’re wondering how to enjoy the countryside, disconnecting from technology can help you make the most of your stay.

The Independent states that UK users spend an average of three hours a day on mobile devices and three hours eight minutes on desktops, tablets, and laptops. Exposure to digital devices like smartphones is linked with greater rates of anxiety, depression, and stress

Though it can be appealing to remain connected, disconnecting from technology can help people appreciate quiet and their natural surroundings. There are lots of rural activities you can enjoy without gadgets, like bird watching near your accommodation, watching the stars under the night sky, or reading your book next to picturesque green hills.

Disconnecting from technology helps you soothe your mind and reconnect with the natural world, so you can truly appreciate each moment of your countryside getaway.

There are lots of rural activities you can enjoy without gadgets, like bird watching near your accommodation, watching the stars under the night sky, or chilling with a beloved pet by your side.

3. Find the Right Accommodation

If you’re planning a tranquil break away in the UK countryside, make sure your accommodation choice is equipped to handle your visit well.

For example, if you’re travelling with your family, you’ll want accommodation that sleeps more than four people comfortably. Couples looking for a romantic getaway, however, might prioritise an outdoor dining area to enjoy meals, or a private hot tub to enjoy a night under the stars.

It’s also a good idea to check what amenities are included, like televisions or disposable BBQs, that can keep you and your guests entertained during your stay.

At Horse Park Hideaway, our hidden retreat has three cabins that cater to a range of needs.

Whether you choose our romantic boutique Fern cabin or our family-friendly Connie, our pet-friendly cabins offer beautiful countryside views and are well-stocked to accommodate your needs.

Book now to secure your stay today, or for more about our retreat, check out our guest information on our website.

4. Try Local Cuisine

The UK countryside isn’t just known for its beautiful scenery, it’s known for its food too! There are endless pubs and restaurants to try, offering local food and drink that pleases all tastebuds.

Some examples of classic British dishes that can elevate your countryside break include:

Fish & Chips: Traditional battered fish served with chips on the side - a perfect lunch to tide you over till dinner! You can find fish and chips served in most local pubs or from takeaways dotted around the local area.

Sunday Pub Grub: Sundays in the UK countryside are often spent enjoying a hearty pub meal. Classic Sunday roast includes roasted meat with potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy on the side.

Ploughman’s Sandwich: A traditional cold sandwich that’s ideal for a light lunch. The sandwich usually has cheese, butter, and relish or pickles inside a crusty bread. Enjoyed with a pint of local cider or ale, it’s a wonderful way to sample British dishes.

Exploring local cuisine is a way to immerse yourself in the UK’s countryside charm. If your accommodation has kitchen amenities, consider looking up some recipes to try when you’re back inside!

The countryside is home to endless pubs and restaurants, many of which offering local food and drink to please all taste buds.

5. Prepare Rainy Day Activities

You might be eager to explore the countryside, but the UK weather isn’t always sunshine and rainbows! Britain’s weather is very unpredictable, as you might see sun, wind, and rain all in a single afternoon.

The UK is prone to frequent rainy spells, which can make it harder to enjoy some rural sightseeing. However, with the right attitude and good preparation, you can make the most of your stay.

A rainy day is the perfect time to embrace indoor activities! If you’ve been putting off reading that novel, now is the perfect time to dive into it, perhaps with a steaming mug of tea by your side.

For families with children, bringing along your favourite DVDs can turn a grey day into a cosy movie marathon. Many rural accommodation places are stocked with board games or puzzles suitable for all ages, which can help create moments of laughter and connection.

Preparing some indoor activities can help make sure your countryside break remains enjoyable, no matter what the weather is outside.

Blackpool Firework Championships

We went to the Blackpool Firework championship the first time in 2 years last night, we try and go to at least 2 out of the 4 shows every year. It is always such an amazing display and living so close it feels like it’s something we shouldn’t miss!

Last night was Ireland’s turn!

We knew it was going to be busy. We’d heard of last weeks huge motorway delays so we thought we’d be clever. We drove the back roads, about 30 minutes from the cabin, and parked up on the prom near Bispham Tram station at about 5.30 with very little traffic on the way. We waited about 20 minutes for a tram, a driver shortage meant less trams so a longer wait and a sardine packed tram. This was our first ever experience on a Blackpool Tram. Isn’t it funny, I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve been to Blackpool but I’ve never been on the tram! It wasn’t a pleasant experience but only cost us £12 for a return ticket for all 4 of us.  We got off early and walked…

The fireworks don’t start till 8.30 so we walked into Blackpool and got some pizza slices from a back alley little pizza shop. It was delicious. The queues for food are ridiculous. Make sure you book or take a picnic or find cute little food shops like the one we found!

We then had a mooch down the prom. At 6.30 it wasn’t too busy but also none of the lights turn on till about 7.30 (think this gets earlier as the nights draw in) so we ended up buying our own lights for the kids 🙄🙄 There is some entertainment on outside the tower from 7.30 but we didn’t stay around there to watch.

The fireworks are set off on the beach this year so North pier was open. It costs £2 an adult and £1 a child to go on to the pier. But we were able to sit down, there was a bar without a ridiculous queue and some fairground rides for the kids! The view of the fireworks was incredible the only downside of being on the pier was the fact we couldn’t hear the music that goes along with the fireworks and this did actually have a big impact on the show for us.

Then there’s getting out of Blackpool. We got off the pier pretty quick but there was no way we were fitting on a tram. So we walked back to the car. Ended up being not so clever with a tired 6 year old and a good half hour walk back. The traffic home on the back roads wasn’t too bad.

We were all exhausted but had a lovely evening out! It’s one not too miss but don’t expect to get anywhere quickly and expect to be shoulder to shoulder with a few people.

There’s 2 shows left on the 9th and 23rd October.
Happy Glamping Trips

🤍

We are open for bookings!!!

What an amazingly scary and exciting feeling being open for bookings. I can not wait for everyone to see the cabin and the space we’ve built but I also feel like i’m handing my baby over to strangers. It’s crazy!! I really hope you are all kind and look after her on your stay!

We’ve been taking bookings for 2 days now and we are already fully booked for August, we really can’t quite believe the response we’ve had and all the wonderful comments, it truly is over whelming.

We have started to get bookings for September and October now too… I never in my wildest dreams thought it would all happen this quickly.

Here’s the link to book if you haven’t found it yet 😉 airbnb.com/h/horseparkhideawayfern

We are however not yet finished with the build and still have no electricity or water!! Hopefully the electricity will be on by Friday this week and the water by the end of the month! Fingers crossed. We are still on with getting the grounds all finished and finishing touches here and there! But it’s all looking good!

Looking forward to welcoming you all!

Much love

Caroline (& Josh)

Nearly, ever so close, just a little bit more….

We are nearly there…. Nearly ready to open 😬 I am so excited for our guests to see all our hard work. I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve managed to pull together during this time.

Josh has been incredible, during the height of covid-19 when Josh couldn’t do his day job anymore he was at the cabin day in and day out making sure we were ready to open once the lock down is lifted. He’s struggled to get materials, struggled to get people on site to do the things he can’t but he has managed to pull it all together. He then went back to work and has spent most evenings and every weekend there. I am so proud of him for creating the best and most unique glamping cabin I have ever seen!

And i’ve finally managed to get my hands on the interior!!! I am gutted I haven’t been able to get out to the shops and find the furniture and decor I really want and i’ve fallen short on a couple of chairs that weren’t exactly like the photo online. But on the whole I am managing to get most things needed. And I have to say it is looking incredible! My IKEA shop is being delivered with my last few bits on Friday and then I should be fully furnished 😬😁

I’ve started to get a funny feeling when I think about guests staying, it’s as if i’m letting people stay in my own house without me there or handing my baby over to a stranger!! You can look but you can’t touch! 😂 I hope this is normal and something that will pass!

We finally got our postal address this week! Please don’t send us post yet we haven’t got a post box! It was a great feeling, like this is all actually real and it’s ours. 21 days and we should have running water!

So for anyone that reads these blog posts, i’m not sure who if anyone does, I have an exciting announcement! We should hopefully be going live on Airbnb on Saturday! You will be able to book from August! How incredibly exciting, I hope we get bookings 🙏😂🤞

Much love and say safe

A new kind of normal

Hello, I hope your all well and muddling through lock down OK. I need to get into the habit of writing these blog posts more regularly and you would think i’d have more time on my hands at the moment but we have been so busy on the cabin working non stop to get it ready for opening and it is coming along so well!!

So the cabin actually looks like a tiny house now, it has a floor and work tops and paint on the walls. I actually love it!! I can’t wait for you to be able to come and see it 👀👀

I have been on a virtual training course this week to look at the changes covid 19 brings to our new normal and what changes we will have to make. Our ultimate aim is to make our guests feel safe. We only have one cabin at the minute so the isolation we have is fantastic you don’t have to see another soul if you don’t want to. We will need new cleaning procedures in place so that you know we are doing our best to make sure you remain fit and healthy while staying with us. Finding the right cleaning products that are good for the environment and also germ killing is a little more tricky, my search is on going with this. We are going to move all our information into a digital format so that you can download on to your phone, as cleaning paper can prove tricky! We may have wait a little while until we introduce board games and books into the cabin as we can’t clean these effectively but hopefully this isn’t for long.

We have talked alot about how to bring you and your extended family together at Horse Park Hideaway after being apart for so long. We have plans in place so that you and your parents, grand parents or brothers and sisters or whatever family you have missed can come and stay and you can re connect after this agonising time apart. 😁😁

I’ve also starting putting package plans together and I am sooo excited to release these to you soon!

So hopefully we are nearly there, nearly at our new normal and we can start making plans for the future. Not living in this extremely weird limbo we are in at the moment.

I hope you are all well and finding ways to keep entertained through out this.

Stay safe and stay alert 🙊😆

Much love Caroline (and Josh)

A weekend of gardening in the rain.

It has been a long weekend, between our sons dance workshops and a work night out at bongo bingo for me we have made huge progress on the grounds at horse park hideaway. They were all incredibly over grown with a mass of brambles, nettles and some really spiky trees!! Some of Josh’s work friends owed us a favour and they were amazing’ they cleared a densely covered area and discovered this amazing area. We're thinking, fire pit/bbq... Possibly the perfect place to sit around singing kumbaya?!?

It’s a very weird time to be starting a new business at the moment, with the pandemic of the coronvirus and the possibility of having to self isolate for weeks its all quite scary. we are going to carry on building our cabin and hopefully through all of this we will all come out the other side fit, fighting and well.
